DIGITAL DENTISTRY AND CAD CAM
CAD CAM (Computer Aidet Design-Computer Aidet Manufacturing) stands for Computer Aided Design-Computer Aided Manufacturing. Cerec is a 3 D (3D), computer-aided design and manufacturing device developed for dentistry that combines these two technical concepts. Cad Cam is one of the most important application areas of digital dentistry. The 3 D technique allows information to be obtained about the shape of both the outer and inner surface of the examined area, not a two-dimensional projection image as in tomography and X-ray.
HOW THE CEREC CAD CAM SYSTEM WORKS
The essence of the system is that the images obtained from the intraoral camera, which takes three-dimensional optical measurements, are processed by means of computer programs suitable for the purpose and sent to a very sensitive micro-milling machine working with computer software; With this method, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges and fixed prosthetic substructures are produced from zirconium and porcelain blocks.
ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL DENTISTRY
1-It has Increased the Possibility of Using Materials with High Aesthetic and Biological Compatibility.
Both patients' and modern digital dentistry's search for biologically reliable materials in addition to aesthetics has increased the demand for metal-free prosthetic dental treatments. New materials such as zirconia, which are very difficult to process with traditional methods, can be prepared successfully and aesthetically with the CAD CAM system.
3-Traditional Measurement Method Abandoned.
Cerec CAD CAM system has eliminated the traditional measurement and wax modeling method. Digital/optical measurements are taken. The old method provided an advantage for patients with nausea and/or gag reflex during impression taking. A high-resolution, laser-assisted intraoral micro digital camera can take impressions with micron-level precision. In addition, digital impression taking minimizes the risk of infection during traditional impression taking and alignment.
4-CAD CAM Reduced the Chance of Error.
Advances in digital dentistry have reduced the causes of failure related to the dentist and dental technician. However, it has not completely eliminated them. Therefore, tooth cutting techniques and cavity preparation rules should be followed and bonding and bite controls should be performed carefully.
5-CAD CAM has increased the success and aesthetics of implant treatments.
a-Implant Placement with Digital Dentistry
A 3 D Cerec camera is used to take an intraoral image of the area where the implant placement is planned and where the 3 D tomography image shows tooth deficiency. Both images are overlapped in the computer environment and the possible restoration and the most ideal implant placement angle and depth are obtained with 3 D software. Thus, the risk of complications in implant surgery is reduced and the prosthetic superstructure on the implant is prepared perfectly.
b-Zirconium Abutment Production
With the Cad Cam device, implant abutments can be prepared from zirconium or reinforced ceramic with high biocompatibility, so that personalized aesthetic and functional zirconium abutments can be obtained. When zirconium or ceramic abutments are preferred, abutments that provide maximum harmony with intraoral tissues, provide aesthetic appearance due to reflecting light like natural teeth and contribute to oral hygiene due to low bacterial retention are used.
WHAT IS THE DENTAL TREATMENT PROCESS WITH CEREC CAD GLASS DEVICE?
Working principle of Cerec Cad Cam System: Optical, digital measurements of the cavity or prepared tooth are taken from inside the mouth with a camera. It is designed with a computer program suitable for the purpose, the block is engraved and sintered if necessary. The detailed stages of the process are as follows.
Stage 1: The impression is taken with an optical camera. The measurement is transferred directly to the computer to which the camera is connected.
Stage 2: After the computer converts the images into three-dimensional form, margins and contours are determined by the dentist, and a design suitable for the tooth is made. With its biogeneric feature, the system can suggest restorations similar to the patient's existing teeth. The dentist can perform the procedure within the framework of this recommendation or make the desired changes. The dentist can control the contact points with the opposite tooth, virtually abrade, add, change the contour, increase or decrease the frequency of contact points with the opposite teeth.
Stage 3: After the design is finished, the appropriate color and size block is selected. The block is milled with a micro lathe and the tooth form is obtained.
The blocks used with the CEREC system can be feldspathic and leucite-reinforced glass ceramics, porcelain ceramics with high resistance such as lithium disilicate, nano-ceramics.
In addition, the CEREC system mills the zirconium substructure together with the porcelain to be used on it, allowing these two parts to be joined together later.
Stage 4 is the polishing, coloring and glazing of the porcelain, zirconium and material, which is given the form of a prosthetic tooth or inlay or onlay filling. Advanced technology furnaces are used for this process.
Following the digital measurement with the CAD CAM system used in the clinic, design and production are carried out in the presence of the patient and the procedure can be completed in a single session.
DIGITAL DENTISTRY AND SMILE DESIGN
One advantage of digital dentistry is the ability to design an aesthetic smile. The Cerec system allows the individual to make the desired changes on the teeth, which are transformed into three-dimensional form with the help of a micro-camera, in accordance with the individual's facial and oral structure, to control the contact points with the opposite teeth, to make virtual abrasion, addition, contour changes, to increase or decrease the frequency of contact points with the opposite teeth.
In addition, the images of the possible finished teeth obtained with this method are harmonized with the real facial photograph of the individual, and the dentist and the individual have the opportunity to see the new restoration before it is finished.
